Ode to Memory Elves

The time it takes to recall the elusive name or word grows steadily longer

On the tip of my mind’s tongue
a growing list of words and names.
I’ve assigned them to data retrieval
and I picture little memory elves
searching frantically the deep shelves
of vast warehouses that stretch
to airy gray infinity
